Fox Apron

I'm in love with foxes - OR, it could simply just be the yarn colors that I'm fascinated with.  Either way, I know I do a lot of FOX projects, but, I'm okay with that...lol.

My newest FOX project is this super cute, Fox Apron - use in the kitchen, play dress up or wear as a costume.  However or wherever/whenever you choose to wear this, you are sure to look sly and foxy...

Fox Apron Pattern

Size:  26" long

Gauge:  6 HDC stitches x 5 rows = 2"

Materials:
—6.5mm hook
—3.0mm hook (for inner ear portion)
—(1) skein each of "I Love This Yarn" (Hobby Lobby) in Terra Cotta, Black and White
—tapestry needle for weaving

Neck Strap:

5-35.  Rep #4.  At the end of Row 34, FO and leave a tail to attach to opposite side to make your neck strap.  Prior to joining, make sure the number of rows is enough to comfortably fit around your neck.

Waist Straps (make one on each side):
1.  Join Black yarn at the end of Row 28 with a sl st and Ch1.  HDC in same st.  HDC in the next 6 end stitches.
2-35.  1 HDC in each st across.  Ch1 and turn.  At the end of Row 35, FO and weave ends. 

Repeat on opposite side.  For the straps, make sure the straps are long enough to secure into a bow around the waist.  You may need to add or reduce the number of rows you need.

Assembly:
1.  Attach Inner Ear to Outer Ear's center.  Then attach each ear to the front of the neck straps on each side.
2.  Attach nose in the center at Rows 18-20.
3.  Attach eyes at Rows 14-15 (see my pics for help with placement).

9-1-1 Medical Project in the Works...

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.  I just got back home from a few days at the beach with my son and two of my grandchildren.  It was so much fun and relaxing.  And, I didn't take any yarn/hooks with me.  I was determined to focus on my grand babies and rest....We literally had so much fun that, for a moment, the idea of giving up everything at home and just moving to the beach would be the ultimate life.  And, then Reality slaps you in the face when your cell phone dings with a text message from a bill provider reminding you of your upcoming payment due date.  Ah, but, for a brief time, we get to imagine the beach life for a few days and it's gloriously appreciated.

But, back to reality for me.  My blog posts have been a little slow the past 4-6 weeks.  I have been working on multiple new ideas and designs.  It's taking a little longer than expected.  I do want to go ahead and share how my "medical" project is progressing.

This is a long project that's going to include a lot of cool items.  To date, I have completed a few pieces, which include:

A.  NURSE APRON

Size:  Measures approx. 17" long (you can easily adjust this pattern for someone smaller or bigger; I know both of my 2-year-old grandsons have put it on - slightly big on them; and my 4-year old granddaughter - as you can see in the pics, and my 7-year old grandson - a little snug)

Gauge:  12 HDC stitches x 10 rows = 4"

4.  Attach top of cord to the black Cuff Center.

Pump Cord:

  Size:  My grandson, Jacob, is 7 and wears a size 12/14; this is like a youth small/medium.  I used one of his t-shirts as a guide.

Baby Chick Apron - Toddler-Sized...

Okay, how cute does my grandson, Gabriel, look wearing my newest design, "Baby Chick Apron" with "feet" pockets?  I wanted to design a cute, quick and easy pattern.  And, this truly fits the bill.

This is the perfect project to complete before Easter for your little one to wear while Easter Egg Hunting - no basket required.  Eggs can easily be collected and stored in the "feet" pockets.

The apron measures 18" long, 14" across at the widest and 9" across at the chest.  I used #4 worsted weight yarn and a 6.0mm hook.  I love using 1 hook size for an entire pattern.

Baby Chick Apron

2.  2 HDC in stitch.  Ch1 and turn.  (2)
3.  2 HDC in first st.  1 HDC in next st.  Ch1 and turn.  (3)
4.  2 HDC in first st.  1 HDC in next st.  2 HDC in last st.  Ch1 and turn.  (5)
5.  1 SC in each st evenly around.  FO and leave a tail for attaching.

Place below, center of eyes.


Hair:
1.  I used the tapestry needle and yellow yarn.  I weaved yarn in center top stitch and tied in double knot.  Repeat a second time in the same st.
2.  I then repeated #1 in the stitch to the left of the center stitch and to the right of the center stitch.
3.  Use tapestry needle to fray yarn.

Pockets (make 2):
1.  With orange yarn, Ch5.  HDC in 2nd ch rom hook and across.  Ch1 and turn.  (4)
2.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in the next 2 st and 2 HDC in the last st.  Ch1 and turn.  (6)
3.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in the next 4 st and 2 HDC in the last st.  Ch1 and turn.  (8)

Note:  your child may not require 40 rows for the neck strap.  You may only need 30 Rows.  My grandson has a 20" head circumference; so you may want or need to adjust the number of rows for a smaller head.

1.  Leave a beginning tail for attaching.  Ch3.  HDC in 2nd ch from hook and next ch.  Ch1 and turn.  (2)
2-40.  HDC across.  Ch1 and turn.  At the end of Row 40, FO and leave a tail for attaching.  (2)

Attach each end of the strap to each end of the top of the apron.  Weave ends.  (See my pics)


Waist Straps:
1.  Join orange yarn at Row 26 with a Ch1.  HDC in same st.  1 HDC in end stitch of Row 25.  Ch1 and turn.  (2)
2-50.  HDC across.  Ch1 and turn.  At the end of Row 50, FO and weave ends.  (2)

Repeat on opposite side.

Valentine's Apron

With February approaching, I wanted to design a cute Apron in pinks and red.  I used Hobby Lobby's, Crafter's Secret, yarn (#4 worsted weight yarn).  I used a 6.0mm hook for the apron itself, the straps and 2 of the hearts; and a 3.5mm hook for 2 hearts.

For this apron, I used a combination of HHDC, HDC and SC stitches.  It measures approximately 25" in length.

Valentine's Apron

Size:  Approximately 25" length

Gauge:  Not important

Materials:

--6.0mm (for the apron, straps and 2 hearts) and 3.5mm (for the 2 smaller hearts) hooks

--1 skein of Crafter's Secret yarn each in Passion, Red and Pink (or #4 worsted weight yarn of your choice)

--tapestry needle for weaving ends

U.S. Stitch Abbreviations:

Ch:  chain

Sl st:  slip stitch

Neck Strap:

(note:  it's a good idea to measure as you go; you may not require as many rows as I did for my strap or you may require more rows)

1.  Join Red yarn in the first st of Row 69 and ch1.  HDC in same st and into the next 2 st.  Ch1 and turn.  (3)

2.  HDC across.  Ch1 and turn.  (3)

3-55.  Rep #2.  At the end of Row 55, FO and leave a long enough tail to attach the end to the opposite side of Row 69 of the apron.  

Border:

1.  Join Red yarn on the side of Row 69 of the apron and Ch1.  *4 HDC in same st, Ch1, sk 3 st,* rep from * to * around the apron until you reach the opposite side of Row 69.  (you may have to manipulate this by skipping an extra stitch or 2 to get this to work out evenly and that's okay)  FO and weave ends.

2.  Join Pink yarn and Ch1.  *SC in the middle of the previous row's 4 HDC cluster, then 3 HDC st in the 2nd st of the sk 3,* continue to rep this around.  FO and weave ends.

Side Straps (make 2):

(note:  it's a good idea to measure as you go; you may not require as many rows as I did for each side strap or you may require more rows) 

1.  With Red yarn, Ch4.  HDC in 2nd ch from hook and across.  Ch1 and turn.  (3)

2.  HDC in each st across.  Ch1 and turn.  (3)

3-50.  Rep #2.  At the end of Row 50, FO and leave a long enough tail for attaching to the side of the apron at Rows 28-30.  

Repeat for 2nd strap.  

Hearts:

2 small (3.5mm hook) and 2 large (6.0mm hook) - the hearts are made the same way, with the exception of the hook size

1.  9 DC into MR.  Pull to tighten center and sl st join to first st. 

2.  Ch3.  2 TC into same st as Ch. 3 DC into next st.  1 HDC into next 2 st.  Ch1, TC, Ch1 into the next st.  1 HDC into next 2 st.  3 DC into next st.  3 TC into last st.  Sl st to first DC st of Round 1.  FO and leave a long tail for attaching to apron.  (see pics for placement or place where you desire)
