Buttercup Hat and Diaper Cover Set - Newborn

“I Love This Yarn” in Buttercup is so soft and pretty.  The color is gender neutral so it’s perfect for using to make projects for a baby shower gift.

Here I’ve made a hat and matching diaper cover set, size Newborn.

Buttercup Hat and Diaper Cover
Size:  Newborn

Materials:
—5.0mm hook
—(1) skein of #4 worsted weight yarn (“I Love This Yarn” in Buttercup)
—(1) button, sized 1”
—tapestry needle for weaving

U.S. Stitch Abbreviations:

St:  stitch(es)
Sl St:  slip stitch
SC:  single crochet
HDC:  half double crochet

Rep:  repeat
MR:  magic ring

Directions:
Hat
1.  6 HDC st to MR.  Sl St join to first st and Ch1.  (6)
2.  2 HDC st in each st around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (12)
3.  *2 HDC st in first st, 1 HDC st in the next st,* rep from * to * around.  Sl St join to first st and Ch1.  (18)
4.  *2 HDC st in first st, 1 HDC st in the next 2 st,* rep from * to * around.  Sl St join to first st and Ch1.  (24)
5.  *2 HDC st in first st, 1 HDC st in the next 3 st,* rep from * to * around.  Sl St join to first st and Ch1.  (30)
6.  *2 HDC st in first st, 1 HDC st in the next 4 st,* rep from * to * around.  Sl St join to first st and Ch1.  (36)

Pom (optional):
1.  I wrapped the yarn around 3 of my fingers, 25 times.  I then tied a double knot in the center to secure.  I then cut, trimmed and shaped/form my mom.  Them attached to the hat top.

Diaper Cover:
1.  FHDC 42.  Or, ch 43.  HDC in 2nd ch from hook and across. Ch1 and turn.  (42)
2.  1 DC in each St across.  Ch1 and turn. (42)
3. *Sk first st, HDC st into the next 2 st, now go back and DC in the first Sk st.*  Rep across.  Do not Ch1.  Turn.  (42)
4.   Sl St 9x, Ch1.  SC into the next 24 st.  Stop (do not complete any st in the last nine).  Ch1 and turn.  (24)
5.  *Sk first st, HDC st into the next 2 st, now go back and DC in the first Sk st.*  Rep across.  Ch1 and turn. (24)

Attach Button:
I attached the button in the center front of the diaper cover.  I used the DC stitches from Row 2 as the buttonholes.

The pattern created on the hat and cover is pretty.  I hope you will give it a try.  It really is easy.
