The Perfect Stitch...: Crochet Paisley Bib & Clip

My newest design is a baby bib and pacifier clip that I have so aptly named, "The Paisley Bib & Clip..."

I made this with Red Heart Soft yarn. Below, you will find the free pattern for the bib, clip and the owl appliqué. I think it turned out super cute.

The Paisley Bib & Clip

Materials:

--Red Heart Soft yarn in pink and white

--Small amount of Red Heart yarn in brown, green & orange

--1 small pink button for bib

--2 small brown buttons for the owl eyes

--2 small green seed beads for the owl eyes

--1 clip for the pacifier clip

--5mm & 4mm hook for bib

--3mm hook for owl appliqué

--3.5mm hook for the pacifier clip

--tapestry needle for weaving

Abbreviations:

--ch: chain

--sl st: slip stitch

--sc: single crochet

--inc: increase

--dec: decrease

--sk: skip

--dc: double crochet

--tc: triple crochet

--st: stitch

--mr: magic ring

--fo: fasten off

Special Stitch:

--picot: chain 3, sl st in first chain

--inc (increase): 2 stitches into the same stitch

--dec (decrease): insert hook into stitch, yarn over, draw yarn thru stitch, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, draw yarn thru stitch, yarn over and draw yarn thru all 3 loops on hook

Directions:

Baby Bib

1. With pink yarn & 5mm hook, ch 16. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Ch 1. Turn. (15)

2. Sc inc in first st, sc in next 13 st and sc inc in the last st. Ch 1. Turn. (17)

3. Sc inc in first st, sc in next 15 st and sc inc in the last st. Ch 1. Turn. (19)

4. Sc inc in first st, sc in next 17 st and sc inc in the last st. Ch 1. Turn. (21)

5. 1 sc in each st across. Ch 1. Turn. (21)

6-21: Repeat #5. (21)

22. 1 sc in the first 7 st. Ch 1. Turn. (7)

23. 1 sc in each st across. Ch 1. Turn. (7)

24. Sc dec, sc in necxt 3 st, sc dec. Ch 1. Turn. (5)

25-38. 1 sc in each st across. Ch 1. Turn. (5)

39. Sc in first 2 st, ch 2, sk 1 st, sc in the last 2 st. Ch 1. Turn. This makes the buttonhole. (4 st & ch 2)

40. Sc in the first 2 st, 1 sc into the ch 2 and sc in the last 2 st. FO. Weave ends. (5)

Join pink yarn on row 22 on the opposite side. Repeat from row 22-40, omitting the buttonhole steps (row 39 & 40 will be sc in each st across). Attach a pink button to this side.

With white yarn, join in the top inner corner of the buttonhole side. Work a sc st down the inside and around. I worked 3 sc st into each bottom corner. Sl st to first sc. Turn.

Switch to a 4mm hook. Ch 3, sl st into first ch (picot), sl st into the next 2 st, *picot, sl st into next 2 st,* repeat from *to * around outer edge. FO at the top and weave ends.

Owl

1. With white yarn & 3mm hook, 6 sc into MR. Sl st to first sc and ch 1. (6)

2. With pink yarn, 2 sc into each st around. Sl st to join and ch 1. (12)

3. With white yarn, *1sc in first st, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around. Sl st to join and ch 1. (18)

4. With pink yarn, sl st in the same st as ch 1, into the next st (Dc, Tc, Dc), ch 2, sl st into the next 2

st, (Dc, Tc, Dc) into the next st, sl st into the next st and remaining st around. Sl st to first Sl st. FO.

Leave long tail for attaching.

Wings (make 2)

With white yarn and 3mm hook, 4 sc into MR. Pull tight but don't join. FO. Leave long tail for attaching.

Nose

With orange yarn and 3mm hook, ch 2. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. 2 sc in st. FO. Leave long tail for attaching.

Assembly:

I used 2 small brown buttons and attached with matching thread. I then attached 2 green seed beads on the buttons for eye color. Attach nose beneath/between eyes. Attach wings to each side.

Branch

With brown yarn & 3mm hook, I ch 19. Sc in 2nd ch from hook, and into the next 7 ch, then ch 4, sc in 2nd chain from hook and remaining 2 ch, then continue sc in the remaining 10 ch of the base ch across.

Leaves

Large leaf

With green yarn and 3mm hook, ch 8. Sc in 2nd ch from hook, HDC in next, Dc into next, TC in next, Dc in next, HDC in next and sc in last st. Then coming on around of the base ch, HDC in next st, Dc next, Tc next, Dc next, HDC next and sc in last. FO. Leave tail for attaching.

Small leaf

Repeat as above, omitting "the going around base ch". (7)

Pacifier Clip:

With pink yarn and 3.5 hook, join yarn to clip and make 4 sc st. Ch 1. Turn. I did not count the rows. I just continued with 1 sc in each st across (4), ch 1 and turn until it measured 9" long. FO. Weave ends.

I then joined white yarn in the first sc st at the bottom with a sl st. Ch 3, sl st to first ch (picot), *sc into next 2 st, picot* repeat up the side, at the top, sc into the first st, Sl st in 2nd st, ch 24, sl st into 3rd st and sc in 4th st, *picot, sc into next 2 st,* repeat down the remaining side. FO. Weave ends.
