Top Hat Fox Basket

Last night I was playing around with my Bernat Blanket Yarn and made this cute Fox Basket with Top Hat. It worked up really quick using this yarn and a 10mm hook.

Top Hat Fox Basket

Size: With Top Hat, he stands 13" tall and 28" round with metal basket placed inside; 9" circumference

Gauge: 4 HDC stitches x 3 rows = 2"

Materials:

--10mm hook

--Bernat Blanket Yarn in Pumpkin Spice, Vintage White and Black

--tapestry needle for weaving and attaching features

U.S. Stitch Abbreviations:

Ch: chain

Sl st: slip stitch

St: stitch(es)

SC: single crochet

HDC: half double crochet

Rep: repeat

BLO: back loops only

FLO: front loops only

MR: magic ring

FO: fasten off

Directions:

1. With Pumpkin Spice, 10 HDC st into MR. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (10)

2. 2 HDC in each st around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (20)

3. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next st. Rep around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (30)

4. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 2 st. Rep around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (40)

5. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 3 st. Rep around. Sl st join to first st and FO. Join Vintage White and Ch1. (50)

6. With Vintage White, 1 HDC in each st around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (50)

7-11. 1 HDC in each st around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. At the end of Round 11, FO Vintage White and join Pumpkin Spice yarn. (50)

12. With Pumpkin Spice, 1 HDC in each st around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (50)

13-14. 1 HDC in each st around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (50)

15. 1 SC in each st around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (50)

16. 1 SC in each st around. Sl st join to first st and FO. Weave ends. (50)

Nose:

1. With Pumpkin Spice, Ch2. 1 SC in 2nd ch from hook. Ch1 and turn. (1)

2. 2 SC in st. Ch1 and turn. (2)

3. 2 SC in first st. 1 SC in next st. Ch1 and turn. (3

4. 2 SC in first st. 1 SC in next st. 2 SC in last st. Ch1 and turn. (5)

5-7. 1 SC in each st across. Ch1 and turn. (5)

8. 1 SC in each st across. FO and leave a long tail for attaching. (5)

Nose Tip:

1. With Black Yarn, 3 SC into MR. Sl st join to first st and FO. Leave tail for attaching. (3)

Place nose tip over Rows 1 and 2 and attach. (See pics on where to place on Basket)

Eyes (make 2):

1. With Black Yarn, 6 SC into MR. Sl st join to first st and FO. Leave tail for attaching. (6)

2. With Vintage White Yarn, embroider dot on center or side of eye. (See pics on where to place on Basket)

Tail:

1. With Vintage White, 8 HDC into MR. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (8)

2. 1 HDC in each st around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (8)

3. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next st. Rep around. Sl st join to first st and FO. Join Pumpkin Spice. (12)

4. With Pumpkin Spice, 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 2 st. Rep around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (16)

5-13. 1 HDC in each st around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (16)

14. HDC2tog, 1 HDC in next 2 st. Rep around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (12)

15. 1 HDC in each st around. Sl st join to first st and FO. Leave long tail for attaching. (12)

I attached the tail in the center back and then brought it around the side. You can leave tail in the back, if so desired.

Top Hat:

1. With Black Yarn, 10 HDC st into MR. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (10)

2. 2 HDC in each st around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (20)

3. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next st. Rep around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (30)

4. Work this round in the BLO. 1 HDC in each st around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (30)

5-9. 1 HDC in each st around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (30)

10. Work this round in the FLO. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next st. Rep around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (45)

11. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 2 st. Rep around. Sl st join to first st and Ch1. (60)

12. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 3 st. Rep around. Sl st join to first st and FO. Weave ends. (75)

I placed a metal basket (Spring Garden Collection from Hobby Lobby) that's filled with my Softies inside my Top Hat Fox Basket. My grandchildren love playing with the different Softies I've made. So, this makes a super cute way for me to store them.
