Aztec Drawstring Bag

I crocheted this bag up last night for a friend using 3 colors, alternating between 2 of the colors at a time.  I'm happy with how it turned out.

Aztec Drawstring Bag

Materials:
--6mm hook
--#4 worsted weight yarn in 3 colors (I used yarn I had on hand so I'm not certain of the exact color names - orange, dark orange and turquoise)
--tapestry needle for weaving

Abbreviations:
Ch: chain
Sl st: slip stitch
St: stitch
MR: magic ring
Sc: single crochet
HDC: half double crochet

Special note:  I held 2 strands of yarn together at a time to work with.  I would make 2 rows, then alternate the colors.  After every 2 rows, I alternated colors.  For example, I worked mine as follows:
A. Orange  B.  Turquoise  C.  Dark orange  (2 rows of A & B, then 2 rows of B & C, then 2 rows of A & C)

Directions:
1.  8 sc into MR.  Sl st to join to first st and Ch1.  (8)
2.  2 sc into each st around.  Sl st to join to first st and Ch1.  (16)
3.  2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next.  Repeat around.  Sl st to join to first st and Ch1.  (24)
4.  2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 st.  Repeat around.  Sl st to join to first st and Ch1.  (32)
5.  2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 3 st.  Repeat around.  Sl st to join to first st and Ch1.  (40)
6.  2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 4 st.  Repeat around.  Sl st to join to first st and Ch1.  (48)
7-18.  1 sc in each st around.  Sl st to join to first st and Ch1.  (48)
19.  2 HDC in first st, then skip a stitch, 2 HDC in next st, then skip a stitch.  Repeat around.  Sl st to join to first st.  Fasten off and weave ends.  (48)

Drawstring:
I used dark orange and turquoise and made a chain long enough that would fit around the basket and be long enough to tie.  (I'm sorry I didn't count the chains.  It was around 100.). I then slip stitched in the 2nd chain from the hook and across.  Fasten off.  Before I weaved the ends, I used my tapestry needle, to weave the drawstring in and out of Round 19 where the space was created from skipping a stitch.

Pompoms (make 2):
I held all 3 yarns together and wrapped around 3 of my fingers 15 times.  I then used a long strand of yarn to tie a secure knot in the center (make sure the strand is long enough to secure knot and to attach to drawstring).  Then trim ends, fluff out and attach to drawstring ends.

That's it.  Simple, cute and versatile....

Happy Crocheting!!!
