After I completed my Cozy Toddler Pullover, I felt like I needed something to accessorize the Pullover. So, I had enough Aqua yarn leftover to make a cute Headband.
Difficulty Level: Easy
Size: This will fit a 20" head circumference -- so most toddlers!!!
Materials:
--5.0mm hook
--Vanna's Choice by Lion Brand in Aqua (#4 worsted weight yarn); I used what I had leftover from the Pullover. (For reference. 2 skeins of the Aqua yarn will make the Pullover and the headband)
--small amount of coordinating #4 Yarn for the flower
--less than 1/2 yd of white yarn to make center of flower
U.S. Stitch Abbreviations:
Ch: chain
Sl st: slip stitch
St: stitch(es)
SC: single crochet
HDC: half double croche
FO: fasten off
MR: magic ring
Special stitch:
1. HDC stitch -- for Rows 2 - 5 -- you will be working the HDC stitch into the 3rd loop that was created from the previous row and not into the stitch itself; this creates the beautiful texture for this!!! Now, of course, you can just work the HDC into the stitch itself, but I'm not certain what the texture will be if doing it this way...
Directions:
Headband:
1. Ch71. HDC in 2nd ch from hook and across. Ch1 and turn. (70)
2. SC in first st, HDC in 3rd loop of next st....repeat across, with last stitch being a HDC. Ch1 and turn. (70)
3. HDC in 3rd loop of the first st, SC in the next st...repeat across, with last st being a SC. Ch1 and turn. (70)
4-5. Repeat #2 and #3.
6. FO, leaving a long enough tail to whipstitch the 2 ends together.
Flower:
(I used a lighter shade of Aqua yarn.).
1. MR with Ch1. *3 HDC into MR. Sl st into MR.* Repeat this for a total of 5 times.
2. *Sl st into first st, Sl st into second st. Into the same second st, 3 HDC, Ch1, 3 HDC. Sl st into the third st* rep around.
3. *On this round, we will be working on the backside of the flower. So, make sure you have sl st into the back loop of first st. Ch6. Now, join yarn with a sl st on the backside of the other end of the 6-cluster stitches made.* Repeat until you have made 10.
4. Using white yarn, Ch3. Sl st into first ch. Then attach to center of flower. Weave ends.
5. Using your tapestry needle and yarn, attach flower to Headband. Weave ends.

ch 71 is this an error
ReplyDeleteNo, it is not. For the yarn and hook size I used, it took this as a starting chain to ultimately end up with a headband to comfortably fit a 20” head circumference.
