I made this "Fashionable Cowl & Hat" set for my granddaughter, Miss Arielle, who's 3 year's old. I used "I Love This Yarn" from Hobby Lobby.

Size:
Hat: 19" - 21" head circumference
Cowl: 5 1/4" wide x 17" long
Gauge: I did not gauge this pattern
Materials:
--6.0mm hook
--1 skein of yarn (I used "I Love This Yarn" in Madrigal from Hobby Lobby)
--3 buttons
--tapestry needle for weaving
U.S. Stitch Abbreviations:
Ch: chain
Sl st: slip stitch
St: stitch(es)
SC: single crochet
HDC: half double crochet
MR: magic ring
FO: fasten off
Directions:
Cowl:
1. Ch11. HDC in 2nd ch from hook and across. Ch1 and turn. (10)
2. 1 HDC in the third loop of each st across. Ch1 and turn. (10)
Repeat #2 until it measures 18" long.
1. Now, turn and work 1 SC st evenly across the 18" length. Ch1 and turn.
2-10. SC in each st cross. Ch1 and turn. At the end of Row 10, Ch1 and turn to work on the short end.
Buttonhole:
1. *SC in the first 3 st, ch2 and skip 2 st.* repeat to the end. You should have 3 buttonholes made.
Now, attach the 3 buttons on the opposite end, directly across from the buttonholes.
Hat:
1. 10 HDC into MR. Sl st join and Ch1. (10)
2. 2 HDC in each st around. Sl st join and Ch1. (20)
3. 2 HDC first st, 1 HDC next st. Repeat around. Sl st join and Ch1. (30)
4. 2 HDC first st, 1 HDC next 2 st. Repeat around. Sl st join and Ch1. (40)
5. 2 HDC first st, 1 HDC next 3 st. Repeat around. Sl st join and Ch1. (50)
6. 2 HDC first st, 1 HDC next 4 st. Repeat around. Sl st join and Ch1. (60)
7. 1 HDC in each st around. Sl st join and Ch1. (60)
8-11. Repeat #7.
12. Turn. 1 HDC in the third loop of each st around. Sl st join, Ch1 and turn. (60)
13. 1 HDC in the third loop of each st around. Sl st join. FO and weave ends.
Pompom:
I wrap the yarn around 4 of my fingers 60 times. Tie a knot in center and then use scissors for cutting and trimming. Then attach to top of hat.
