HDC:  half double crochet
FPHDC:  front post half double crochet
BPHDC:  back post half double crochet
Rep:  repeat
FO:  fasten off

Special stitch:
Starting in Row 2, when it calls for the HDC stitch, unless otherwise noted, you will be working the HDC stitch into the 3rd loop that was created from the previous row and not into the stitch itself; this creates the beautiful texture for this!!!  Now, of course, you can just work the HDC into the stitch itself, but I'm not certain what the texture will be if doing it this way...

Directions:
1.  With white yarn, work 24 HDC st around ponytail holder. Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (24)
2.  2 HDC st in each st around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (48)
3,  *2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in the next 3st,* rep from * to * around.  Sl st join and FO white yarn. Weave ends.   (60)
4.   Join blue yarn in any stitch and Ch1.  Into the same stitch as the Ch1, *2 HDC, then 1 HDC in the next 4* rep from * to * around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (72)
5-14.  1 HDC stitch in each stitch around.  Sl st join to first stitch and Ch1.  At the end of Round 14, FO blue yarn and join white yarn.  (72)
15-17.  With white yarn, you will be working around previous rows posts.  *First, FPHDC, then you will complete the BPHDC stitch.*  repeat from * to * around.  Sl st join to first st.
18.  Comple a round of reverse single crochet stitches (aka crab stitch) around the hat.  Sl st join to first st and FO; weave ends.
Happy Crocheting!!!
