Jolly Snowman Hat

How cute is this snowman hat?  I aptly named him - "Jolly Snowman Hat"!!!  I designed this in transmit from visiting my mom and dad-in-law for Thanksgiving.  I used worsted weight yarn and a 6.0mm hook.

Jolly Snowman Hat

Size:  This will fit the average 19-21" head circumference

Materials:
--6.0mm hook
--#4 Worsted Weight Yarn in white, black, green and orange
--small amount of polyfil for top hat
--tapestry needle for weaving

Ch:  chain
Sl st:  slip stitch
St:  stitch(es)
SC:  single crochet
SC2tog:  single crochet 2 stitches together (creates a decrease)
HDC:  half double crochet
FPHDC:  front post half double crochet
BPHDC:  back post half double crochet 
Sk:  skip
Rep:  repeat
MR:  magic ring
FO:  fasten off

Directions:
1.  With white yarn, 8 HDC into MR.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (8)
2.  2 HDC in each st around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (16)
3.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next st.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (24)
4.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 2 st.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (32)
5.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 3 st.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (40)
6.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 4 st.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (48)
7.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 5 st.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (56) 
8.  Working in BLO, 1 HDC in each st around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (56)
9.  Working in both loops, 1 HDC in each st around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (56)
10.  Working in BLO, 1 HDC in each st around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (56)
11-17.  1 HDC in each st around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (56)
 At the end of Round 17, FO white yarn and weave ends.
18.  Join green yarn with sl st and Ch1 into any st.  HDC into the same st as the Ch1 (this will count as your first FPHDC), *BPHDC, then FPHDC.* Rep from * to * around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (28 FPHDC & 28 BPHDC)
19-21.  HDC into the first st (this will count as the FPHDC), then BPHDC.  *FPHDC, BPHDC* around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  At the end of Round 21, FO and weave ends.  (28 FPHDC & 28 BPHDC)

Eyes (make 2):
1.  With black yarn, 6 SC into MR.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (6)
2.  2 SC in first st, 1 SC in next st.  Rep around.  Sl st join and FO.  Weave ends.  Leave a long enough tail for attaching.  (9)

Nose:
1.  With orange yarn, Ch4.  SC in 2nd ch from hook and next 2 ch.  Ch1 and turn.  (3)
2.  1 SC in each st.  Ch1 and turn.  (3)
3.  SC2tog, SC next st.  Ch1 and turn.  (2)
4.  SC2tog.  FO and leave a long enough tail for attaching. (1)

Mouth (make 5):
1.  With black yarn, 5 SC into MR.  Sl st join and FO.  Leave a long enough tail for attaching.

Top Hat:
1.  With black yarn, 6 SC into MR.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (6)
2.  2 SC into each st around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (12)
3.  2 SC in first st, 1 SC in next st.  Rep around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (18)
4.  2 SC in first st, 1 SC in next 2 st.  Rep around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (24)
5.  2 SC in first st, 1 SC in next 3 st.  Rep around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (30)
6-9.  1 SC in each st around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (30)
10.  Working in BLO, 1 SC in each st around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (30)
11.  In both loops, 2 SC in first st, 1 SC in next st.  Rep around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (45)
12.  1 SC in each st around.  Sl st join and FO.  Leave a long enough tail for attaching to top of hat.  Add a small amount of polyfil before you complete attaching the top hat.

Bow for Hat:
1.  With green yarn, 3 SC into MR.  Sl st into MR.  3 more SC st into MR. Sl st into MR.  Join and FO.  Leave a long tail to wrap around center and to attach to the hat.

Green Wave:
1.  Join green yarn with sl st in the top stitch in Round 8 of the hat and Ch1.  SC in same st.  Ch2.  Sk over 2 st and join yarn with a sl st in the top stitch of Round 10.  SC in same st.  Ch2.  Sk over 2 st and join yarn with a sl st in the top stitch of Round 8.  Continue to repeat this pattern around alternating between Round 8 and Round 10.  Sl st join to first st and FO.  Weave ends.  (this creates a nice, wavy pattern)
