Owl Hand Puppet...

Happy Saturday!!!  Well, after making a Fox, Beaver and Raccoon Hand Puppet, I had to make an Owl.  I think I still need to do a Skunk and a Squirrel to complete this Woodland Series Hand Puppets.

Owl Hand Puppet

36.  SC across.  Ch1 and turn.  (14)
37.  SC2tog, 1 SC in next 10 st, SC2tog.  Ch1 and turn.  (12)
38.  SC across.  Ch1 and turn.  (12)
39.  SC2tog, 1 SC in next 8 st, SC2tog.  Ch1 and turn.  (10)
40-42.  SC across.  Ch1 and turn.  (10)
FO at end of row 42.
-- I made color changes at Row 21 thru 30 with brown yarn; and then at Row 31-42 with aqua -- (this was just my preference, but change colors or not as desired)

Back Piece:
Make as the front piece.  I made it entirely in brown tweed.

Wings (make 2):
1.  With yellow yarn, 8 HDC into MR.  Sl st to first st to join and Ch1.  (8)
2.  2 HDC in each st around.  Sl st to first st to join and Ch1.  (16)
3.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next st.  Repeat around.  Sl st to first st to join and FO.  Leave long enough tail to attach.  (24)

Nose:
1.  With yellow yarn, Ch5.  SC in 2nd ch and across.  Ch1 and turn.  (4)
2.  SC across.  Ch1 and turn.  (4)
3.  SC2tog, SC2tog.  Ch1 and turn.  (2)
4.  SC across.  Ch1 and turn.  (2)
5.  SC2tog.  Ch1 and turn.  (1)
6.  1 SC.  Ch1.  (1)
7.  Work 1 SC in each st evenly around perimeter of nose.  FO.  Leave long enough tail to attach.

Eyes (make 2):
1.  With black yarn, 6 SC into MR.  Sl st to join and FO.  (6)
2.  Join white yarn into any st.  2 SC in each st around.  Sl st to join and FO.  (12)
3.  Join turquoise into any st.  SC in each st around.  Sl st to join and FO.  Leave long enough tail for attaching.  Weave any loose ends.

Ears (make 2):
I made tassel ears.  I used black, white, yellow, turquoise and aqua.  I weaved onto each side at top and then tied in a double know.  I then used my tapestry needle thru each strand to give it a bushy/fuzzy look.

Assembly:
I attached eyes and nose before whipstiching the front and back together.  When whipstitching the front and back together, place right sides together.  When I whipstiched around the perimeter of the head, I did it in an oval-shaped pattern to make the head circular.

For the wings, I just placed each one on the side and whipstitched half of the circle to the front and the other half to the back piece.

And, that's it!!!!  PIN now - and make later if you're pressed for time!!!

Balloons Bouquet with Father's Day Cozy...

With this being Father's Day weekend, I wanted to make something special for all the Dads out there.  I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer in 1998 and I sure miss him.  But, I know if he was still here with me, I certainly would want to make him something special to show him my love for him.  Dads are special, too!!!

So, here's an idea that popped in my head last night.  It didn't take too long to make and I think it's super cute.  But, I think everything I make is super cute...lol!!!!  The myriad of colors out there for yarn is amazing and it does tend to make crochet projects super cute, in my opinion.

I used a tall frosting container for my "vase" so I only made 3 balloons - 1 large and 2 medium-sized!!!  If you plan on using something bigger, then by all means add more balloons, more colors.  I made the cozy using tapestry crochet.

Summer Wreath - Beach-y Appliqués!!!!

Well, I finally got around to finishing this Summer Wreath.  I made the wreath cover several weeks ago and just really sat on it until I decided what I wanted to do.

I was out in the garden this morning picking squash, onions and banana peppers and broke into a sweat.  North Carolina tends to get too hot and humid in the summertime.  And, the beach seems to be calling my name...lol.

But, for now, some cute beach appliqués on a wreath will have to do....

For the white portion of the eyes:

Attach the white of the eye to the black portion before attaching the eyes to the front piece.

See pics for eye and eyebrow placement.

Ears (make 2):
1.  In dark gray yarn, Ch2.  2 SC in 2nd ch from hook.  Ch1 and turn.  (2)

37.  1 SC in each st across.  FO and leave a long tail for attaching front and back together.  (8)

Back Piece:
Make the back piece exactly the same as the front.

Border:
Now, you will go back to Row 1 and work on the opposite side of the base chain.
1-2.  Join yarn and complete 2 rows of DC st across.  Ch1 and turn.
3-4.  Work 2 rows of FPDC/BPDC stitches across.  Ch1 and turn.  FO and weave ends after row 4.

Complete Border Section for the back piece as well.

Nose:
First part -

2.  1 ESC in the first 3 st, sl st into the next 2 (previous row sl st), and 1 ESC in the last 3 st.
3.  1 HDC into the first 3 st, sl st into the next 2, and 1 HDC into the last 3 st.  FO.  Leave a long enough tail for attaching.

See pics for bowtie placement.

NOTE:  Once you have added the facial features, you can then whipstitch your 2 pieces together to shape your puppet.  For the thumbs:  you will need to skip 3 stitches about midway up on each side of the puppet. As you can see above, on the Beaver, I sorta did a circular whipstitch at the top section in joining to give a circular head look.  But, for joining, I placed right sides together and whipstitched securely around and then turn them back inside out and completed adding any additional applique work.
Now to complete the thumbs, join yarn with slip st and chi in sk st. Working with front ant back piece, 2 Sc in each st around. Sl st join. 1 SC in each st around. Rep  2 more times. Now, SC Dec 6 times. Sl st join. FO. Leave a tail to close up opening. Repeat for second thumb…

Ears (make 2):
1.  In light beige, 6 SC into MR.  Pull to tighten but do not join.  Ch1 and turn.  (6)
2.  2 SC in each st across.  Ch1 and turn.  (12)
3-4.  1 SC in each st across.  Ch1 and turn.  At the end of row 4, FO and leave a long enough tail for attaching.  (12)

See pics for ear placement.

And, that's it for the Beaver Hand Puppet.  And, again, if you'd prefer to make it the same way as the Fox and Raccoon that is fine.  I was just really playing around and changing it up some to see how it would look and I liked the end result.
