Owl Hand Puppet...

Happy Saturday!!!  Well, after making a Fox, Beaver and Raccoon Hand Puppet, I had to make an Owl.  I think I still need to do a Skunk and a Squirrel to complete this Woodland Series Hand Puppets.

Owl Hand Puppet
Owl Hand Puppet Pattern

Difficulty Level:  Easy

Materials:
--4.5mm hook
--#4 worsted weight yarn in Brown Tweed("I Love This Yarn" from Hobby Lobby), brown, yellow, turquoise and aqua black and white - total approximate yarn of 200-225 yards
--tapestry needle for weaving

Note:  I just used up a variety of colors I had on hand; not really happy with the solid brown I used in the front, but it works...

Stitch Abbreviations:
Ch:  chain
St:  stitch(es)
Sl st:  slip stitch
Sk:  skip
SC:  single crochet
SC2tog:  single crochet 2 stitches together
HDC:  half double crochet

Directions:
-- The Hand Puppet is made in 2 pieces - front and back. --

FO at end of row 42.
-- I made color changes at Row 21 thru 30 with brown yarn; and then at Row 31-42 with aqua -- (this was just my preference, but change colors or not as desired)

Back Piece:
Make as the front piece.  I made it entirely in brown tweed.

Wings (make 2):
1.  With yellow yarn, 8 HDC into MR.  Sl st to first st to join and Ch1.  (8)
2.  2 HDC in each st around.  Sl st to first st to join and Ch1.  (16)
3.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next st.  Repeat around.  Sl st to first st to join and FO.  Leave long enough tail to attach.  (24)

Nose:
1.  With yellow yarn, Ch5.  SC in 2nd ch and across.  Ch1 and turn.  (4)
2.  SC across.  Ch1 and turn.  (4)
3.  SC2tog, SC2tog.  Ch1 and turn.  (2)
4.  SC across.  Ch1 and turn.  (2)
5.  SC2tog.  Ch1 and turn.  (1)
6.  1 SC.  Ch1.  (1)
7.  Work 1 SC in each st evenly around perimeter of nose.  FO.  Leave long enough tail to attach.

Eyes (make 2):
1.  With black yarn, 6 SC into MR.  Sl st to join and FO.  (6)
2.  Join white yarn into any st.  2 SC in each st around.  Sl st to join and FO.  (12)
3.  Join turquoise into any st.  SC in each st around.  Sl st to join and FO.  Leave long enough tail for attaching.  Weave any loose ends.

Ears (make 2):
I made tassel ears.  I used black, white, yellow, turquoise and aqua.  I weaved onto each side at top and then tied in a double know.  I then used my tapestry needle thru each strand to give it a bushy/fuzzy look.

Assembly:
I attached eyes and nose before whipstiching the front and back together.  When whipstitching the front and back together, place right sides together.  When I whipstiched around the perimeter of the head, I did it in an oval-shaped pattern to make the head circular.

For the wings, I just placed each one on the side and whipstitched half of the circle to the front and the other half to the back piece.

And, that's it!!!!  PIN now - and make later if you're pressed for time!!!

Happy Crocheting...
