Fox Pencil Topper

With school days ahead, here's a super cute Fox Pencil Topper for the kids.  This would also make a great gift for your child's teacher.

It takes less than an hour to make and uses very little yarn.  You can change the main color to gray and your Topper becomes a Wolf...

Fox Pencil Topper Pattern

Difficulty Level:  Easy

Size: approximately 3" tall from ears to base

Materials:

--2.5mm and 3.0mm hooks

--#4 worsted weight yarn in Terra Cotta and white (25-30 yds)

--3 small buttons

Stitch Abbreviations:

Ch: chain 

Sl st: slip stitch

St: stitch(es)

SC: single crochet

SC2tog: single crochet 2 stitches together

MR: magic ring 

FO: fasten off

Directions: 

Head:

1.  With 3.0mm hook and Terra Cotta yarn, 6 SC into MR.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (6)

2.  2 SC in each st around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (12)

3.  2 SC in first st, 1 SC in next.  Repeat around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (18)

4.  2 SC in first st, 1 SC in next 2 st.  Repeat around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (24)

5-6.  1 SC in each st around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  At the end of Round 6, FO and weave ends.  Join white yarn and Ch1.  (24)

7-8.  With white yarn, 1 SC in each st around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (24)

(After Round 8, go ahead and attach 2 small buttons for the eyes between Rounds 7 and 8.  See my pic for placement.  Make sure to leave a big enough space between the eyes for the nose.)

9.  SC2tog, 1 SC in next 2 st.  Repeat around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (18)

10.  SC2tog, 1 SC in next st.  Repeat around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (12)

11.  SC2tog.  Repeat 5 more times.  FO and weave ends of white yarn.  Join Terra Cotta Yarn.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (6)

12-15.  1 SC in each st around.  Sl st join to first st and Ch1.  (6)

At the end of Round 15, FO and weave ends.  

Nose:

1.  With 2.5mm hook and Terra Cotta yarn, ch2.  SC in 2nd ch from hook.  Ch1 and turn. (1)

2.  2 SC in st.  Ch1 and turn.  (2)

3.  2 SC in first st, 1 SC in next st.  Ch1 and turn.  (3)

4.  2 SC in first st, 1 SC in next st and 2 SC in last st.  Ch1 and turn.  (5)

5.  1 SC in each st across.  Ch1 and turn.  (5).

6.  2 SC in first st, 1 SC in next 3 st and 2 SC in last st.  FO, leaving a tail to attach to head.  (7)

7.  Attach small black button to nose tip.  

Ears (make 2):

1.  With 2.5mm hook and Terra Cotta yarn, ch2.  SC in 2nd ch from hook.  Ch1 and turn. (1)
2.  2 SC in st.  Ch1 and turn.  (2)
3.  2 SC in first st, 1 SC in next st.  FO and weave ends.  (3)
4.  Join white yarn in any st and Ch1.  SC evenly around ear.  FO, leaving a tail to attach to head.
5.  Attach ears to each side of the head.

And, that's it!  Quick, simple and cute!!!
