"On-The-Go" Playhouse...FREE pattern!!!!

I finished up Miss Arielle's "On-The-Go" Playhouse earlier this week.  She is super excited for me to bring this to her house so she can play with it.  She just loves crocheted toys and I'm more than happy to make them for her.

I used worsted weight yarn - a mix of Red Heart Super Saver and "I Love This Yarn" from Hobby Lobby - that I had on hand.  This is a great project to use up scrap yarn you may have.

I used felt for the inside roof, walls and floor, but you could easily crochet the inside pieces.

Roof (make 2):
(I made each panel roof using the Basketweave Stitch, which is just alternating between FPDC and BPDC stitches.  However, you could make this the same way as the walls, if you prefer, just make sure your panels measure 7" x 4".)
1.  With brown yarn, Ch29.  DC in 4th ch from hook and across.  Turn.
2.  Ch3, *FPDC 2 times, BPDC 2 times, FPDC 3 times, BPDC 3 times,* repeat across and then 1 HDC into last st.  Turn.
3-7.  Repeat # 2.  FO at the end of Row 7.  Weave ends.

Walls ( make 2:  6" x 6" and make 2: 7" x 6")
6"x6"
1.  Ch20, HDC in 2nd ch from hook and across.  Ch1 and turn.

2-15.  HDC in each st across.  At the end of Row 15, FO.  Weave ends.

Triangle Peaks (make 2):
(these go on the sides of the roof and should match the roof in color)
4" x 6"

2.  HDC2tog, 1 HDC in the next 15 st, HDC2tog.  Ch1 and turn.

The below pic will show you 2 peaks (brown), 2 roofs (brown), 2 walls (pink), 1 floor (yellow) and 2 walls (pink):

Tabs for Velcro (make 6; 2 in the same color as the roof and 4 in the same color as the walls):
1.  Ch4, SC in 2nd ch from hook and across.  Ch1 and turn.
2-8.  SC across.  Ch1 and turn.  FO and leave tail for attaching.

Handles (make 2 in same color as roof):
1.  Ch7, SC in 2nd ch from hook and across.  Ch1 and turn.
2-14.  SC in each st across.  Ch1 and turn.  At the end of Row 14, FO and leave tail.  Fold handle
in half to whipstitch to close.  I used a small piece of cable cord in the center (you can use polyfil; or leave it empty).  Once it was closed, to each end of the handle, I joined yarn, ch1.  SC in same st as ch 1 and SC 3 more times.  Make 4 rows.  FO and leave tail for attaching each handle to the top of the roof.

For each crocheted panel you will need a matching felt panel and plastic canvas panel.  Note, however, I trimmed my plastic canvas panels approximately 1/4" - 1/2" shorter to make it easier to slip between the crocheted and felt panels.   Each felt panel will need to be sewn to each crocheted panel with the plastic canvas between it.  You could use craft glue to attach pieces but I chose to sew mine together.

To assemble the pieces together, you will see in the below pic how to lay out the panels.  The 2 shorter walls and the peaks are horizontally placed.  The remaining panels are vertical.

Attaching the pieces to each other:
To help with explaining this, I'm going to treat the above pic as 5 rows:
Row 1 is a roof
Row 2 is a wall
Row 3 is the peak, wall, floor, wall and peak
Row 4 is a wall
Row 5 is a roof

The panel pieces can either be sewn or whipstitched:
You will need to sew Row 1 to Row 2.  The opposite end of Row 2 will then be sewn to the floor of Row 3.  While on Row 3, the panel pieces that are horizontal will need to be sewn together.  The walls of Row 3 that joins with the wall of Row 2 will need to be sewn together.  Row 4 will need to be sewn to the floor of Row 3.  Do NOT sew the corners of Row 4 to the walls of Row 3.  Row 5 will need to be sewn to Row 4. You will need to also sew the backside of where the roof and peaks meet, but not the front side.

If the panels meet and are not sewn together, then this is where a Velcro tab will be attached.  This is so the playhouse will open and lay out, as if the front wall and one roof is a floor.   To reinforce my Velcro, I did use craft glue.

The handles were attached at the top, center of the roof.  I also added a button to one side of the roof and then to the opposite side, I joined my yarn and made a chain 6 and then slip stitched it to the roof to make the closure to go around the button.

3 Velcro tabs on each side of the house:

As you can see in the above pics, I added a few outside and inside decor.  This is completely
optional.

To the outside, I added the following:
--2 windows (3mm hook):
1.  With white yarn, Ch10, SC in 2nd ch from hook and across.  Ch1 and turn.
2-7.  SC in each st across.  Ch1 and turn.  At the end of Row 7, FO white yarn.
8.  Join a contrasting color in the top right corner stitch and Ch1.  SC around.  Sl st to first st.  Now, across the top only, you will slip stitch into the stitch, ch3, slip stitch into first chain (picot stitch made) and then slip stitch into next st and repeat across.   FO, leaving a long tail for attaching one window to each side of the house.

--a front door (3mm hook):
1.  With white yarn, Ch11.  SC in 2nd ch from hook and across.  Ch1 and turn.
2-7.  SC across.  Ch1 and turn.  At the end of Row 7, FO, leaving a long tail to attach.
To attach: turn vertically and whipstitch to the center of the front panel.
To make trim: with black yarn, Ch40.  FO and attach around door.
Use black yarn to embroider door knob.

--an apple tree (3mm hook):
1.  With green yarn, 6 HDC into MR.  Sl st to join and Ch1.
2.  2 HDC in each st around.  Sl st to join and Ch1.
3.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next st.  Repeat around.  Sl st to join and Ch1.
4.  *3 DC in first st, 1 SC in next st,* repeat 7 more times.  Before completing the last SC stitch, FO green yarn (leave a long tail for attaching) and join brown yarn.  1 HDC st into each of the last 2 stitches.  Sl st to join, turn and ch1.
5-10.  SC in each stitch.  Ch1 and turn.  (2)
11.  2 SC in each st.  Ch1 and turn.  (4)
12.  2 SC in first st, 1 SC in next 2 st and 2 SC in last st.  Ch1 and turn.  (6)
13.  2 SC in first st, 1 SC in next 4 st and 2 SC in last st. FO, leaving a long tail for attaching.

For the apples (make 4):
1.  With 3 mm hook and red yarn, 3 SC into MR.  Sl st to join and FO.  Leave tail for attaching.

--a flower (3mm hook):
1.  With purple yarn, 6 SC into MR.  Sl st to join and Ch1.
2.  3 DC in first st, Sl st in next st.  Repeat around.  FO, leaving a tail for attaching.
3.  For the stem, with green yarn, ch7.  SC in 2nd ch and next 2 ch.  Ch 3.  SC in 2nd ch and next.  Then continue to SC in remaining base ch.  FO and attach to flower.

To the inside, I added the following:
--a bed with 2 pillows and a blanket
--a flatscreen TV
--lamp with a table
--a basket with yarn
--area rug
--a swimming pool
--a "flower" mommy

Flatscreen TV (3mm hook):

2-5.  SC in each st across.  Ch1 and turn.  At the end of Row 5, FO white yarn and join black yarn.
6.  Work 1 SC in each st around.  FO.  Weave ends.
At the bottom center, embroider a green stitch (indiciates TV is on...lol)

Now, you will be making the backing piece that the TV will attach to.  This piece is what will be attached to the wall as well.  I'm not sure what you would call it.
1.  With white yarn, 6 SC into a MR.  Sl st to join and ch1.
2.  SC in each st around.  FO.  Leave a tail to attach to the back of the TV in the center.

1.  Ch20, SC in 2nd ch from hook and across.  Ch1 and turn.
2.  Ch3, DC in first st, skip 2 st, *3DC in next st, skip 2 st* rep across, 2 DC in last st.

2.  I used thread and sewed the top, bottom and sides together to make a rectangle shape.
3.  I then stuffed polyfil inside the plastic canvas.
4.  Next, I placed the crochet bed cover around the plastic canvas and whipstitched the first row to the last row.  Weave ends.
5.  Last, I placed each bed cover end on the ends of the bed and whipstitched it.  Weave ends.
