How cute is this sunhat? I used Crafter's Secret Cotton Yarn from Hobby Lobby. This is going to be for my granddaughter, Miss Arielle. She will be heading to Busch Gardens and will definitely need a Sunhat.
So, I hope you will enjoy making this hat as much as I did in designing it.

Sunhat Pattern
Difficulty Level: Easy
Size: Comfortably fits 19" - 21" head circumference
Gauge: 7 clusters of SC/HDC stitches + 12 rows = 4" x 4"
Materials:
--4.5 and 5.0 mm hooks
--less than 1 skein each of Crafter's Secret Cotton Yarn from Hobby Lobby (each skein is 120 yds)
--tapestry needle for weaving
Stitch Abbreviations:
Ch: chain
Sl st: slip stitch
St: stitch(es)
SC: single crochet
HDC: half double crochet
Rep: repeat
Sk: skip
MR: magic ring
FO: fasten off
Directions:
1. With smaller hook and blue yarn, 8 HDC into MR. Sl st to join and Ch1. (8)
2. 2 HDC in each st around. Sl st to join and Ch1. (16)
3. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next st. Rep around. Sl st to join and Ch1. (24)
4. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 2 st. Rep around. Sl st to join and Ch1. (32)
5. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 3 st. Rep around. Sl st to join and Ch1. (40)
6. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 4 st. Rep around. Sl st to join and Ch1. (48)7. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 5 st. Rep around. Sl st to join and Ch1. (56)
8. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 6 st. Rep around. Sl st to join and Ch1. (64)
9. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 7 st. Rep around. Sl st to join and FO blue yarn. Weave ends. (72)
Rows 10-21 are done the same way. It will be 2 rows red, 2 rows white. Repeat until you complete the 21st row.
Note: after 2nd repeat row of each color, I FO, weaved ends and joined new color.
10-21. Join red yarn in any st and Ch1. In same st as Ch1, *1 SC and 1 HDC. Sk next st.* Rep around from * to *. Sl st to join and Ch1. (36 SC and 36 HDC)
22. Join blue yarn and Ch1. 1 HDC in each st around. Sl st to join and Ch1. (72)
23. Switch to 5.0 mm hook. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 2 st. Repeat around. Sl st to join and Ch1. (96)
24. Rep round 23 again. Sl st to join, FO and weave ends. (128)
And, that's it. Of course you can add an appliqué, buttons, embellishments, etc. I have quite a few nautical/summer appliqués on previous posts so check them out if you're looking to add something extra to your hat. I opted to leave mine as is.
